Racing drivers might also start an entirely different passion

alongside their racing campaign. Such a driver is Christopher

Okotcha, an aspiring racing driver who aims to be in the

highest echelons of motorsport in just a few years.

“I started my motorsport journey quite late compared to

other drivers, at the age of around twelve. In my case, it was

a bit on and off as I didn’t have a consistent budget which

tends to prevent a lot of racing drivers from progressing

further. I was always really into racing but I didn’t know how

to get into it because it was, and still is, quite elitist”

The struggle to fund a successful racing campaign is

commonplace as a study conducted by Result Magazine

found that an alarming 79% of former racing drivers

attributed a lack of funding to the end of their racing career.

For over a decade, Chris has taken his talent to the web,

offering his skills as a graphic designer. “I’ve been

professionally designing for over a decade now and I’ve

always been intrigued by design and art in many forms.

Everything has its origins like my racing with playing racing

games on the Playstation was the graffiti I saw when I was

younger, it had a mysterious element to it.” The act of

balancing two extremely different professions is a delicate

skill, which Chris has perfected over several years.

“Most drivers outsource designers to create designs for their

helmets whereas I designed my helmets, which saves costs

but also impresses people too.”

There’s been an increase in this trend, even in the highest

levels of motorsport.

Examples include Lando Norris’ latest foray into DJing and

Lewis Hamilton’s recent fashion collaborations with Tommy

Hilfiger and Puma.

Chris, Steve, and Tarandeep are all inspirational figures in

the ever-evolving world of motorsport, where drivers, both

former and current, are always discovering new passions to

add to their very impressive resumes
